This season’s manager, Justin Paulsen, is excited to coach his team of prospect athletes, including those who grew up near and around Quincy, Illinois. From Freshmen to Seniors, this team is ecstatic to get back into the swing of things.
“With the Prospect League getting canceled last summer, I don’t think I’ve been more excited about the start of a season,” Paulsen said.
The Gems are scheduled for 60 games this summer, with 31 of those games being played at home. Out of the dozens of home games throughout the season, the Quincy Gems Baseball Stadium will host seven different GEMPIRE Nights.
A GEMPIRE Night is a great night for fans and is filled with opportunities to win prizes, access to food specials, along with extra entertainment throughout the ball game. The first GEMPIRE Night game of the season is this Saturday, so be sure to show up for exciting games, prizes, and a chance to see prospects play the game right.
“I’ve had a couple of buddies play up here in Quincy and they’ve all bragged about the crowds they receive for the home games,” Paulsen said. “I’m really looking forward to all of our home games.”
The Gems have a versatile roster of more than 30 players from all over the country. And each and every one of Paulsen’s players are excited for the chance to play this season and make up for lost time due to Covid19.
“Having to do the daily testing in the spring and hoping no one tested positive was a very stressful time,” Paulsen said. “We were able to get through it thankfully and ready for a normal summer schedule!”
The May 29th game will be an exciting matchup for our Gems, it has been two seasons since the Quincy Gems and Clinton LumberKings have faced off. When asked to describe his excitement for this upcoming season in one word, Justin Paulsen responded:
“Relieved, finally summer ball is back!”
